
A spring storm that brought rain, snow, thunder, lightning and gusty winds Thursday knocked out power to more than 268,000 across Maine at its peak and created hazardous driving conditions that closed state government.
Central Maine Power reported more than 182,000 customers still without power in its service area at 6:50 p.m. Friday, down from a peak of more than 204,000 earlier in the morning. The utility has a total of almost 650,000 customers.

Wegmans joins other grocery stores, including Giant and Safeway, in limiting the number of customers in its Washington-area stores at any given time.
While Wegmans did not provide a specific number of customers, it said it is operating its stores at 15% to 20% of maximum occupancy, and said it has good practices in place to ensure its stores are staying within those limits.

They started a "Local Dollars" campaign, where they give customers a dollar back from every purchase to spend at another local business.

Gov. Mark Gordon is urging the state's residents to give their business to companies taking steps to keep their customers and employees safe in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
Gordon, during a news conference Wednesday, singled out some stores that remain open as "heroes and zeros."
"I think we are adapting," he said. "I think there are heroes and zeros. I continue to encourage people to shop at the places where they see the heroes, the ones that take care of their workers.
