Storefront floats celebrate the Margarita and bid good riddance to 2020 | Uptown Messenger

Two more storefront floats have appeared along Magazine Street this week – at Del Fuego Taquería and McEnery Residential. One is part of the Krewe of House Floats subkrewe for the Audubon Riverside neighborhood, and the other joined up with the Krewe of Read Beans’ “Hire a Mardi Gras Artist” project.

Chef Dave Wright at Del Fuego Taquería summed up their decision to make a storefront float this way: "We're all really going to miss the parades this year, so when the Krewe of House Floats was formed, we jumped on the idea of celebrating Mardi Gras in our neighborhood. Our 'Krewe of House Margarita' is where it's at!"

Kaufman Music Center Turns New York City Storefronts Into Stages - WSJ

Now, the Kaufman Music Center, a fixture on Manhattan's Upper West Side since 1952, is trying another approach: putting artists behind a storefront window to entertain New Yorkers as they pass by, with the music amplified on the street.

The series, appropriately dubbed Musical Storefronts, kicked off in January and is scheduled to run through the end of March. The center is careful not to announce the exact location of the performances, except to say they take place somewhere north of Columbus Circle on the West Side, to keep large crowds from gathering for them. Similarly, the center isn't providing information on exact performance dates and times.

Car crashes into Belmont storefront - The Boston Globe

A car crashed into a store in Belmont Monday evening as the first major winter storm of the year brought heavy snowfall into the area.

Icy weather conditions and low visibility caused a black Toyota SUV to swerve and break through the storefront of Art's Specialties on Trapelo Rd, the Belmont Fire Department said. The incident happened around 6:10 p.m.

Photos from the department show debris and shattered glass on the floor where the vehicle crashed through two large windows. No injuries were reported.

Forget BlackBerry (TSX:BB) and Buy Shopify (TSX:SHOP)

The market short squeeze has dominated a lot of the market news this week. Some stocks, such as BlackBerry , have seen their stocks shoot upwards of 100% year to date. To be fair, the short squeeze isn't the only reason why BlackBerry is rising, but it did help propel the stock north. I've mentioned my problem with BlackBerry before. Fortunately, there are other investments on the market worthy of mention, such as Shopify (TSX:SHOP)(NYSE:SHOP). Here's a look at why you should buy Shopify.

We Wouldn't Rely On Shopify's (NYSE:SHOP) Statutory Earnings As A Guide - Simply Wall

It's good to see that over the last twelve months Shopify made a profit of US$197.3m on revenue of US$2.46b. At the risk of seeming quaint, we do like to at least examine profit, even when a stock is improving revenue and considered a 'growth stock'. The chart below shows that revenue has improved over the last three years, and, even better, the company has moved from unprofitable to profitable.

Shopify was losing money three years ago. Zooming in to the last year, we still can't talk about growth rates coherently, since it made a loss last year. What we do know is that while it's great to see a profit over the last twelve months, that profit would have been better, on a per share basis, if the company hadn't needed to issue shares. So you can see that the dilution has had a bit of an impact on shareholders.

Adding SMS to an Ecommerce Marketing Mix | Practical Ecommerce

In 2021, roughly 280 million Americans will own a smartphone out of a total population of 328.2 million, according to Statista. Smartphones are ubiquitous, in other words.

Many smartphone owners are seemingly addicted to their devices, looking at them between 80 and 100 times a day, depending on which survey you read.

Text messaging — specifically, short message service (SMS) communication — is among the most popular smartphone applications. An often-quoted Gartner report from 2016 , for example, found that SMS had an open rate of about 98 percent. And several other surveys estimate that many smartphone users will read a text message within five minutes of receiving it.

How Analytics Can Help Overcome Security Talent Shortage | CSO Online

Even as the frequency and types of cyberthreats continue to climb, companies across the globe are faced with another problem: not enough experienced security professionals to combat the threats. A 2020 survey by the nonprofit certification organization ISC 2 puts the shortage at 3.12 million globally, while a study by Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) finds 70% of organizations have been impacted somewhat or significantly by the global cybersecurity skills shortage.

The top impact of the shortage, cited by 58% of ESG survey respondents, is the increased workload on existing staff, while 54% say the shortage leads to security jobs remaining open for weeks or months. More than one-third of respondents (38%) say the shortage has left their cybersecurity teams unable to learn or utilize some security technologies to their full potential.

Stereotypes are where creativity goes to die

The sexism on display in the Government's pulled coronavirus ad demonstrates an urgent need to fight toxic stereotypes, Nicola Kemp says.

The backlash to the government's latest ad campaign is a timely reminder of why tackling sexist, toxic stereotypes needs to be at the top of the advertising agenda.

This was the message sanctioned by the government via a social media post. One that celebrates gender inequality and invisible and unpaid labour by depicting women completing domestic tasks, cleaning and homeschooling, while the only man present is inexplicably lying on a couch relaxing.

Biden reopens ACA enrollment for three months in opening bid to extend health coverage - The

The directive, part of a series of executive actions the president is taking during his first days in office, is a down payment on his pledge to make health care more accessible and affordable and a sign of his determination to rehabilitate the landmark law after four years of Republican battering. Those goals have taken on more urgency as 25 million people have been infected with the coronavirus and millions of others have lost jobs.

During a brief signing ceremony, Biden described the action in unusually direct terms, as a way to "to undo the damage Trump has done," saying his predecessor had made the ACA plans "more inaccessible, more expensive, and more difficult for people to qualify for."

Edtech startup Nerdy , which owns the popular tutoring business Varsity Tutors, is seeking to become a public company through a special purpose acquisition vehicle, otherwise known as a SPAC.

Nerdy will merge with TPG Pace Tech Opportunities (NYSE: PACE), a publicly traded SPAC since 2015. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of this year.

Nerdy's flagship business, Varsity Tutors, is a two-sided marketplace that matches tutors to students in large, small or 1:1 group environments. The learning platform covers more than 3,000 subjects. Like other edtech companies , Varsity Tutors uses artificial intelligence and data analytics to better match experts to learners. Additionally, in August, Varsity Tutors launched a homeschooling offering meant to replace traditional school.

Facebook Marketplace is a gold mine of finds , provided you know how to navigate it. Luckily, avid user Aly McBride of the Main Line Find has a few tips.

Marketplace functions on an algorithm, so the more you key in related terms, the more results for those terms will show in your feed. If it's more an overall aesthetic you're seeking — Bohemian, Hollywood Regency — pair that term with a variety of furniture types.

The department was quick to post a press release and a fact sheet about the enrollment period.

According to calculations by the foundation's experts, about four million of those 15 uninsured American could get a free bronze plan once ACA subsidies are factored in. A second group of about five million would get a subsidy but would still pay some of the premium, according the foundation's analysis. Law in the Marketplace: 10 ways your lawyer can keep it simple

Many readers of this column are business owners, and many of them have a need from time to time to hire a lawyer to draft a contract for them. These contracts might include, for example, a contract between your company and its employees or independent contractors; an asset or stock purchase agreement, a nondisclosure agreement or an LLC operating agreement.

The problem that business owners find with many of these contracts is that they are written not in plain English but rather in legalese or, worse yet, in taxese.
