Labor is the biggest corporate expense for most organizations. The cost of labor for an average company typically represents around 30% of revenue (this percentage can be a lot higher for service-based businesses).

More often than not, people analytics teams get stuck in the reporting phase. They focus too much on the "what" when they should be thinking of the "so what."

Opinion | Southwest put investors ahead of its customers and employees - The Washington Post

At a minimum, Southwest should fully compensate affected passengers and swiftly upgrade its outdated computer system. Giving full refunds for canceled flights and paying for food and hotel stays are the least the airline can do.

The core problem is Southwest's failure to modernize its infrastructure. Casey Murray, president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, told CNN the airline still uses phones and a computing system from three decades ago.

It's The Season Of Gift-Wrapping—But Don't Put Your Customers In A Box

In this high-volume, often chaotic season, stressed retailers may be tempted to take shortcuts when it comes to online personalization. They might be inclined to buy into the myth that using intrusive tracking and targeting strategies lead to more conversions and, subsequently, revenue.

When we hit that button, we're effectively allowing retailers to put us into boxes—and not the fun ones we wrap in festive wrapping paper. No, these boxes cluster us into demographic-based groups based on personally identifiable information (PII) like age, gender and location. This is problematic.
