Pie & Mighty prepares to open new storefront in the Powderhorn neighborhood | kare11.com

MINNEAPOLIS — Every business starts somewhere. For one Minneapolis one, it began underground. Literally.

Rachel Swan and her partner are the owners of Pie & Mighty. They're planning on opening their first storefront in a couple of weeks.

Swan said the place has been in the works for years. Swan showed KARE11 around the new digs under construction.

"The yellow and the brightness and the memory that's sort of summed up in the lemon angel pie," Swan said. "This is sort of the physical representation of it and this is, this is my grandma," Swan said.

Gowanus Souvenir Shop to close storefront by end of month - Brooklyn Paper

The Gowanus Souvenir Shop is set to close its doors on Jan. 31, when the shop’s owner said she will focus on selling her toxic-waste-themed novelties online and in select stores.

"It's always been more of a passion project than a business scheme," said Ute Zimmermann. "It's a big time burden to have a storefront and to keep it stocked. Now we can focus on doing more fun things."

The Union Street store between Bond and Nevins streets will remain open until the end of the month, when the business it shares the space with, the gift shop From Here to Sunday, will take it over and continue selling some of the Zimmermann's goods, such as T-shirts and postcards, she said.

Uptown Artists Loft To Get Facelift, New Storefronts — And Hopefully Perk Up North Broadway,

Now, the couple wants to open up the building’s storefront for the first time in two decades, and hopefully help transform a dormant stretch of Broadway.

From the outside, the building looks like a vacant storefront, with blinds pulled over the windows and a blank sign. The building is next to a U-Haul business and is across the street from a storage facility.

For the first time since owning the building, Hinkamp and Rocha are seeking to overhaul the building’s Broadway-facing facade.

We Are All Storefronts Now - The New York Times

Around 10 years ago to the day, I wrote my first column as the Critical Shopper . In that time, I've written about more than 150 stores, spanning luxury outposts and discount retailers, malls and pocket-size shops, decades-old spots and places that quickly vanished. But I've never written about the one I'm most familiar with.

We all are, really, in this time of post-Kondo closet-thinning, mainstreamed ethics of sustainability and easy access to online marketplaces. And selling your things online is part of the modern condition of being vulnerable on the internet. It requires you to be present, decent and transparent. You have wares to offer, and you hope someone else might find them worthy. Please accept my goods and, by extension, me.

How To Stay Atop In A Crowded Retail Market - StamfordAdvocate

It's a contentious subject. Many cannabis industry folks in the U.S. say the best marijuana in the legal industry is grown in Oregon. Why? Oregon is lush, it's home to the Cultivation Classic , a highly-regarded cannabis cultivation competition, and it has  over 600 licensees . The state is so abundant in cannabis that legislators passed the  Oregon cannabis export bill  last year  in hopes that Oregon cannabis can be exported and enjoyed nation-wide.

Need a legal pot shop in California? Grab your smartphone - AP News | RiverBender.com

In another step to curb the state's flourishing illegal pot market, California regulators proposed rules Thursday that would require legal shops to post a unique black-and-white code in storefront windows to help consumers identify licensed businesses.

Shoppers could use their smartphones to scan the familiar, boxy label known as a QR code — similar to a bar code — to determine if a business is selling legal, tested cannabis products.

"The proposed regulations will help consumers avoid purchasing cannabis goods from unlicensed businesses," said Lori Ajax, who heads the state's Bureau of Cannabis Control. "These requirements will also assist law enforcement in distinguishing between legal and illegal transportation of cannabis goods."

Welcome To The Shoelace Factory | Webster-Kirkwood Times | timesnewspapers.com

During that dinner, the pair hit it off. Today, the Glendale residents aren't just a couple; they are also part of the same business, the Shoelace Factory at 205 N. Kirkwood Road.

"I had bought some of these old machines at an auction in 1988 and I just had them stored," he said. "I wasn't going to do anything with them but I thought they were really cool because of the way they operate."

Her recent return to St. Louis — and the aforementioned squirrels in the attic — brought the pair back in contact. Today, they work to bring shoelaces to the general public.
