Sonora Shopping Center To Receive Facelift | myMotherLode.com

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Planning Commission will review a proposal to make improvements to the exterior of some of the existing buildings in the Sonora Plaza shopping center on Mono Way.

The project calls for adding fiber cement board with a cedar like texture in some areas, repainting the exterior, replacing the metal roof on the southeast facade and slightly increasing the height on the northern end. The area is located between 708 and 736 Mono Way. It will be patterned after improvements approved by the commission in October of last year for the nearby 99-Cent store, future Wilco site and the former Cost-U-Less building.

Why Grocery Stores Have Tiny Kid-Size Shopping Carts - The Atlantic

When Danielle Eskinazi's 4-year-old son gets his own small cart to push at the grocery store, he carries himself differently. "His back straightens up a little bit," she told me. "He looks around like a peacock to make sure everybody's watching [and can see that] he has a bit of independence in what he chooses to eat."

That doesn't stop him, and countless other children, from wanting to steer shopping carts tailored to their small frame. These mini carts, a fixture in many grocery stores in the United States and abroad, are widely adored by children and generally useful to retailers' business strategies, even if they are also occasionally irritating to the shoppers who must dodge them in the aisles.

Macy's new shopping concept 'Market By Macy's' launches in Southlake | wfaa.com

'Market By Macy's' launched Thursday in Southlake, the first-ever location for the company's new retail concept.

Schechtman showed WFAA around the new store Thursday, which is highly curated, from its murals painted by local artists to Texas beer in its bar. It feels like a boutique when you walk in rather than a department store.

"When we sat down to work on this brand, we thought: How can we build a model that's relevant five, 10 years from now?" Schechtman said. "And it's really about how can you feel like you're in someone's home and how can it be more of a social shopping experience."

Local florists prepare for Valentine’s Day and show importance of shopping local |

Florists in the area are preparing gifts and arrangements for the holiday. Gary Maas and Kathy Stahon are just a couple of local florists that are busy with their shops. Both owners say business around this time of year is good, but could be better. The internet is impacting local businesses especially when it comes to shopping.

“It’s not the same it was and probably never will be. I think retail is taking a big hit from the Internet. That’s why we’re encouraging people to buy local.” Maas said.
