How to stay safe, healthy while shopping during pandemic
With the coronavirus spreading, many Americans are following the government's advice to limit trips out in public. But you may still need to go to the grocery store sometimes to stock up on food.

Staying safe starts before you even enter the store. Take some disinfectant wipes from home with you—your store may be out—and use them on the cart or basket while shopping. Bring a rubber-tipped pen to avoid touching checkout screens.
Once inside the store, try to remain at least 6 feet away from other people, which isn't always easy these days. So try shopping at off-peak hours like early morning or later in the evening. A Google search of your supermarket can show you when foot traffic is the highest.

The Connecticut Grocery Association says there is an unimagined demand for food supplies. Grocery stores are working to stock the shelves at the same time as they are working to clean and keep us safe.
A routine trip to the grocery store isn't so routine anymore. "There's some hoarding going on in some instances," said Wayne Pesce of the Connecticut Food Association. "We're trying to control that and make sure that everybody can get milk and everybody can get bread and everybody can get canned goods so there are limits in place in all stores throughout the state."
Deputies stationed outside stores in Nassau County during senior shopping hours
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sheriff Bill Leeper said he's stationing more deputies outside grocery and convenience stores in Nassau County during senior citizen shopping hours, which many stores have implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leeper said he has not received any official reports of older shoppers being taken advantage of, but he's heard that it's a worry among some shoppers that it could happen, and he's having some extra deputies patrol during busy hours.

Coronavirus shopping guidelines during Vermont's stay at home order
Vermont shoppers fearful of the spread of COVID-19 are buying weeks, and in some cases months, worth of groceries. The tendency to overbuy has demanded more of the supply system resulting in empty shelves and some residents having to go without necessary items.
The Vermont Retail and Grocers Association asks consumers to consider their neighbors when making purchases, recommending basic shopping guidelines so we can weather this outbreak together.
