Tiger Woods' first-ever Nike ad campaign: What do we make of it now?

Welcome back to the Tiger Woods YouTube Project, where we’ve officially turned pro! As August 1996 rolled around, there were two sides to the Tiger-turns-pro story. First, there was Tiger himself, which we covered with Andy Johnson and Brendan Porath in our last episode (by way of his Curtis Strange interview ). The other side was the Nike side. The now-legally-commercialized side. Tiger the brand. Let’s dive in!

By the time Woods actually turned pro, he was already the biggest name in the sport. Golf was about to go global, and Nike Golf was planning to do the same.

Toyota Enlists 'Jan' For Action-Oriented Messaging Amid Covid-19

Toyota is pivoting from a purely inspirational marketing message to a more practical approach for dealing with the coronavirus shock, as one of America's biggest automotive brands fields a new ad campaign.

In national TV commercials debuting today, Toyota utilizes its long-time signature character associated with its dealers and retailing relationships, "Jan," to remind Americans that the company very much remains open for business and available to meet their automotive needs.

Democrats released Monday a video ad in Spanish in support of a special election House candidate in California's 25th District.

I think the requested injunction would have indeed been unconstitutional. There's a hot controversy about whether permanent injunctions against repeating libels, entered after a finding on the merits that the speech is libelous, are constitutional. But even courts that allow such permanent injunctions agree: An injunction issued before such an adjudication on the merits is a clearly unconstitutional "prior restraint," and violates the First Amendment.

An injunction, issued only following a determination at trial that the enjoined statements are defamatory, does not constitute a prohibited prior restraint of expression. "Once specific expressional acts are properly determined to be unprotected by the first amendment, there can be no objection to their subsequent suppression or prosecution."

DNC books $22 million in fall YouTube ads | TheHill

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced on Monday that it had booked more than $22 million in fall-scheduled YouTube advertisements across 14 battleground states ahead of the November presidential election.

The reservation is the single largest by any Democratic group so far. In 10 of the states — Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia — the ads will begin running on Oct. 1 and will continue through Election Day on Nov. 3.
