Squadded Shopping Party hopes to bring this concept to the West by letting its users go shopping together on fashion e-commerce sites, as if inside a virtual mall.

At Selden Market in downtown Norfolk, the doors are unlocked, and the music still plays. But most shops are vacant except for their owners. It is a tunnel of light with almost no one inside.

"The music goes off sometimes," says Jackson, "And if there's no music, it feels eerie. (The mall manager) told us how to change it, so technically we could do hip-hop. But lately we've just got the rockin' '90s R & B vibe."

Slide Thru #FAM , the hip-hop themed Filipino restaurant Jackson shares with partner Rina Parilla Garcia, is a painful rarity in these parts: a shopping-mall restaurant that has found a way to stay open during the coronavirus pandemic.
