Tampa entrepreneur develops software to help ecommerce customers feel good about their purchases

Ecommerce sales companies often are great at marketing, but can fall short on packing and shipping.

Rick Nelson, founder and owner of The Fulfillment Lab Inc. in Tampa, has developed technology that helps ecommerce sellers present a more complete package to their customers.

Like other fulfillment companies, The Fulfillment Lab provides warehousing, picking and packaging, shipping and delivering to the end consumer, using FedEx, UPS, the U.S. Postal Service and other carriers. But the Fulfillment Lab uses proprietary software to customize the packaging and increase brand awareness, which Nelson said allows ecommerce sellers to develop stronger relationship with their customers.

Technology, consumer appetites fuel e-commerce rise during the pandemic

Etsy’s pivot, which mirrored that of thousands of small businesses who shifted their own production lines to produce the kaleidoscope of crafted masks, resulted in a 17-percent boost in total gross market sales—12 million masks sold in April—according to The Wall Street Journal. Men and women in equal numbers flocked to the site, historically frequented by female shoppers, to purchase masks.

“Etsy’s smart move points to the big advantage of e-commerce—that it can be agile and move quickly to adjust to where the demand is,” explained Sara Rushinek, a business technology professor at the University of Miami Patti and Allan Herbert Business School. “If you’re a retail store you might not have the shelf space or be concerned that a few months later the demand will evaporate and you’ll be stuck with inventory.”

Two Packaging Products Benefitting from the COVID-Fueled E-Commerce Spike | Ohio | news-herald.com

The e-commerce market for bubble packaging – which accounted for 30% of total demand in 2019 – is expected to outpace all other outlets for bubble packaging, as consumers become increasingly comfortable ordering items online. Higher value items in particular require added protection and thus more packaging to ensure safe transport.

Insulated packaging containers and shippers boosted by increased meal kit/food e-commerce activity

Insulated shipping containers are seeing strong sales increases in the relatively small e-commerce market, driven by expanding online sales of meal kits and other perishable food and beverage items. Many packages containing fresh and frozen items require good insulation during shipping, (e.g., packages are often left outdoors until the intended recipient arrives home).
