PELHAM — While A Birthday Place has been providing birthday and party supplies for more than a decade online, the business recently opened its storefront in Pelham to provide a more physical shopping experience.
The store, located at 2706 C Pelham Pkwy., creates a unique atmosphere for those needing party supplies to come and buy any materials that they might need, including custom banners and edible cake toppers.
"We have been open mostly as an online store, my aunt Patricia Papalardo is the owner. She started the business like 15 years ago as a website selling cake toppers and it has just slowly grown it," employee Allyson McPoland said.
NYC Open Storefronts Initiative to Allow Businesses to Expand Onto Sidewalks – NBC New York
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the launch of the city's Open Storefronts initiative -- allowing for businesses to use sidewalks in front of their stores, in the same way restaurants currently do, in order to welcome back more customers safely during the pandemic.
The initiative will kick off this Friday and run through Dec. 31 and is modeled after the Open Restaurants and Open Streets programs.
De Blasio says the move will ultimately help tens of thousands of stores stay in business during the pandemic.

New York City’s Open Storefronts program launched on Friday, October 30, and allows existing ground-floor storefront businesses o utilize outdoor sidewalk space to showcase their retail products, offer repair and personal care services, and operate laundry and dry cleaning services. Until the end of the year, this will hopefully allow New York City business owners to increase their bottom lines while still considering safety during the coronavirus pandemic.
Holiday seasons are critical periods for business owners, with shoppers seeking retailers for gifts or personal care services to prepare for holiday parties. While 2020 may look a little different, businesses still expect to benefit from the Open Storefronts program.
Savannah Bee Company Opens New Retail Storefront in South Carolina, Continuing Mission to Save
Despite a turbulent year for consumer and honeybee populations, Savannah Bee's strong foundation, booming e-commerce platform, and experiential storefronts have positioned the company for continued growth. The new store allows Savannah Bee to expand its footprint while staying ahead of retail trends by opening first as a pop-up, and later as a permanent, full-service store.
The Greenville shop opens Friday, October 30 at 123 N. Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601 and can be reached via phone at 864.535.5482. Store hours are Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. The store will close temporarily in January 2021 to build a honey-inspired café and mead bar before reopening permanently.
