HSBC Debuts Open Payments Platform For eCommerce | PYMNTS.com

The HSBC Open Payments application will let businesses connect their checkout pages with the customers' online apps or app-based mobile platform. Then the purchaser is given a request for pre-populated payments, and upon authorization, an "instant and irrevocable credit" is applied to the seller's account.

The faster payment receipt is meant to help clients get better working capital, the press release said. In addition, the risk of fraud is less, as is the cost of collecting payments.

Jumia can be Africa's Amazon by enabling third party e-commerce — Quartz

Back in 2012 when it first launched, Jumia's long-term goal was to become the leading e-commerce player on the continent.

It set about that objective like typical e-commerce platforms do: acquiring vast inventory, building warehouses, and aiming to drive online sales based on the promise of ease and convenience.

Indeed, one of the company's first steps was to hire account managers in charge of growing its inventory base across a diverse range of categories, from mobile phones and electronics to fashion, beauty and childcare. If customers wanted to buy it, Jumia—often referred to as the Amazon of Africa—wanted to be able to sell it. It was similar to the way Amazon itself started first with books and CDs and then eventually an Amazon of nearly everything.

You've made the e-commerce pivot – now what? | The Drum

Covid-19 has forced many businesses to pivot to e-commerce in order to survive. But as we face the prospect of 2021 still under the shadow of the pandemic, what comes next? Where do we find opportunities to grow? How can we plan for growth in the context of such an uncertain future?

As part of The Drum's recent Digital Summit, and in partnership with WP Engine, US editor Kenneth Hein recently hosted an online panel addressing these questions and more.

Kicking off the discussion, Shah explained how Feather's entire business model is based on the idea of human behaviour pivoting to a new relationship with 'ownership'. She said: "Furniture rental is a relatively new behaviour, for sure, but it's a behaviour that we are betting on. In some ways, Covid has helped us. There's been a lot of home moving activity because of the pandemic. The data surrounding that activity has accelerated and influenced our expansion plans.
