Des Moines food truck Des Fresh Foods opening restaurant at Cityville

Des Fresh Foods has signed a lease at Cityville on 9th, 550 Southwest Ninth St., a mixed-use building with commercial and retail space on the ground floor and apartments above. An opening date is not yet set.

Owners Stephanie Cox and Timothy Kommavongsa have been operating Des Fresh Foods as a food truck for two years, primarily parking at Peace Tree Brewing Co. in the East Village and at the Downtown Farmers' Market.

The vegetarian-themed menu — featuring items like a seasoned chickpea patty, lentil nachos and a tofu sushi burrito — was a hit, Cox said.

Ice Cream Bae serves up first storefront; menu of food concepts already sprinkled across KC

A colorful mix of childhood cereals, Eastern Asian-inspired flavors and Instagrammable cones set Ice Cream Bae apart from other ice cream shops in Kansas City, said Adison Sichampanakhone and Jackie Faltermeier.

"We put extra attention into detail with every cone because customers are coming here for an experience, so it has to look perfect," said Sichampanakhone, who co-founded and owns Ice Cream Bae — newly opened at Park Place in Leawood — with his girlfriend, Faltermeier. "We really try to hit home on the presentation and customer experience, as well as the flavor."

Many things are taking place:

Downtown Detroit Markets replaced with pop-ups in empty storefronts for coronavirus holiday season

Downtown Detroit Markets, the collection of holiday shops around Campus Martius run the past three years by Dan Gilbert's portfolio of companies, is a no-go this season.

Local vendors will not be assembling along Cadillac Square, selling their wares from 130-square-foot glass huts. That did not seem like a good idea given the global pandemic, Bedrock LLC said in a news release.

But billionaire Gilbert's real estate company is still renting out pop-up retail space through early January. Six metro Detroit sellers will set up shop at six vacant storefronts downtown, with varying temporary rent structures. These spaces will be larger and easier to accommodate distanced, masked shoppers, according to Bedrock.

Dorchester Art Project opens storefront - The Bay State Banner

Last month, the Dorchester Art Project in Fields Corner opened the doors to its newly expanded space and storefront. Located in the same building as DAP's existing studio and event space, the new storefront offers a revenue source for artists, a creative workspace for the community and the opportunity for expanded programs in the future.

Ivan Richiez, a local artist known for his graffiti work, has several 8-by-8-inch abstract paintings available in the shop. This is his first time selling his work in a setting like this. "I feel like a lot of my supporters have been waiting for me to sell my art," he says. "I finally found a space where I feel I could trust the people selling it." The monetary breakdown for work sold is a 70/30 split in favor of the artist.

The Recorder - From barn to storefront: Rustic Romance vintage furniture store reopens in

MILLERS FALLS — Cindy Bayer was cleaning out her barn in Greenfield when she noticed something funny. Not only were the old things she left by the curb quickly disappearing — they were reappearing on the online stores of local resellers.

So, she began her own sales out of her barn. Her store, Rustic Romance, grew over the last five years into a vintage furniture store with customers from across New England. Last week, Rustic Romance reopened in a storefront at 26 East Main St. in Millers Falls, giving it amenities like heat in the winter and convenient parking.
