Why Digitization Isn't Enough For B2B eCommerce | PYMNTS.com

While the business-to-consumer (B2C) eCommerce boom has arguably already occurred, the global pandemic is introducing a second wave of digital commerce adoption. Thanks to social distancing and stay-at-home requirements, foot traffic at brick-and-mortar stores remains slumped, leaving businesses to embrace the eCommerce model like never before.

But this isn't a trend reserved for the B2C space anymore. Indeed, business-to-business (B2B) eCommerce is a thriving market that, today, is growing even more quickly as a result of the coronavirus crisis. Estimates from from Frost & Sullivan earlier this year forecast the B2B eCommerce market to hit more than $6.6 trillion worth of sales — significantly more than the estimated $3.2 trillion generated in the business-to-consumer market.

As e-commerce booms, U.S. ports face traffic jams - Marketplace

E-commerce has been booming through the pandemic, and this will be an especially big week for online shopping, with Black Friday coming up. Of course, more e-commerce means more imports. And more imports have led to many of the country's big ports being backed up, with container ships idling offshore as they wait to come into port to be unloaded.

Now, the Federal Maritime Commission says it's launching an investigation into the causes of that congestion.

Finding A New Level For Ecommerce | Seeking Alpha

Lockdowns triggered a huge spike in online sales of every kind, but then the question was where this would stabilise.

In the USA, where lockdowns have been pretty patchy, ecommerce was ~17% of addressable retail at the beginning of the year.

Amazon is having a good lockdown, but so is anyone else who can sell online - lots of habits are being broken right now.

The growth of ecommerce has always fit the old line about a frog in boiling water. Every year ecommerce's share of retail got a little higher, and physical retailers got a little more uncomfortable (and recently have started failing), but the growth in any given year was never dramatic enough to make headlines - just inexorable. That was until 2020, of course - now we've had a reset.

Quite a lot has been going on:

Ghost Kitchens, Changing Cities, and Other E-Commerce Trends to Watch

So, e-commerce is going gangbusters. Its inflection point was so profound that Retail Brew's Halie LeSavage and I (Ryan) had to drop everything and get our Special Delivery guide out the door.

But we didn't cover all the e-commerce-adjacent changes afoot. On Black Friday, the unofficial American paean to buying things, we're taking an even closer look at those changes.

Domino's storied reinvention included different recipes, better marketing, and new tech. The pizza chain developed an app and a Pizza Tracker within said app. It enabled pizza ordering with voice assistants. Domino's also piloted self-driving deliveries and a computer vision-powered overhead pizza inspector .

eCommerce Statistics and Trends 2020 [Infographic] | Social Media Today

eCommerce has seen a massive rise in 2020 - according to some estimates , the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift away from physical stores to digital shopping by roughly five years.

Of course, over time, more and more people would have been shopping online anyway, but for those businesses that saw this as a far off future, something that doesn't necessarily need to be factored in right away, they're now being forced to re-assess, and analyze their own approach to the eCommerce shift.
