California has become the fourth and largest state to adopt emergency workplace protections for COVID-19. Nearly 20 million workers in California will be protected by the new mandate, which includes requirements for face masks, physical distancing and reporting of outbreaks in the workplace.

Virginia , Michigan and Oregon have moved forward with similar plans, though such measures haven’t been legally required at the federal level. However, the Biden administration could change that.

Mnuchin moves to cut off Fed pandemic emergency lending program - Marketplace

David Brancaccio: So what is going on here? Is this a difference of opinion among reasonable people about when to ratchet back on some stimulus?

Petrou: Yes and no. I agree with the Fed that, particularly given the awful pandemic news we’re getting, the economy is going to need rescuing. The fact is none of these Fed programs, at least the ones that Treasury is targeting, has worked. And they haven’t worked well because of the uncomfortable square peg-round hole challenge of getting the Fed to do the Treasury’s and the federal government’s bidding.

The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid rose last week to 742,000, the first increase in five weeks and a sign that the resurgent viral outbreak is likely slowing the economy and forcing more companies to cut jobs.

The Labor Department's  report Thursday showed  that applications for benefits rose from 711,000 in the previous week. Claims had soared to 6.9 million in March when the pandemic first intensified. Before the pandemic, applications typically hovered about 225,000 a week.

Two PlayStation 5s stolen during Facebook Marketplace scams in Troy

In Troy police are looking into the thefts of two Playstation 5s during Facebook Marketplace sales.

Two parties met, one with a PlayStation 5, and the "buyer" was supposed to have the money in the parking lot of the Troy police station, no less.

"Here at the Troy Police Department circle driveway, we have Craig's List Safe zone where people can take advantage of our location here," said Officer John Julian. "The suspects asked to look at the item while still in the vehicle they get the item and fled the location."
