Iowa may have launched sports wagering earlier than any of its Midwest counterparts, but to most operators, the state has been taking its revenue potential at a jog, and not a sprint.
The idea was to give Iowa's 18 licensed casinos for sports betting an experiential shot in the arm and a new pool of customers. To outside providers, the requirement placed geographical limitations on their reach.
As such, although the market has been up and running for 16 months, the new year brings a sort of second launch to Iowa's 3.16 million in population. Or, in the opinion of some operators, something even greater.
This may worth something:
Crews hope to have gas service restored to most customers in Aspen by Wednesday evening
Black Hills Energy said that as of 1:15 p.m., service had been restored to more than 85% of the 3,500 customers that had been without.
The company said that a white door tag signals technicians arrived when no one was home and said people who receive them can call 888-890-5554 to schedule a return visit. A red tag signals that a safety inspection identified an appliance giving off carbon monoxide and that more work was needed.

New Port Richey Store Gives Back To Customers, Community | New Port Richey, FL Patch
This year has been a challenging one for many across the country, including essential workers and families in need. While some had the option to work from home, essential workers did not. And while some families will have the financial means to purchase gifts this year, others will not.
"We are giving the opportunity for the guys in the field to get to get something, and it feels good because they're the ones who keep our doors open," said New Port Richey Branch Manager Justin Torregrossa. "As for giving back to the community, we understand that a lot of people's Christmas this year isn't going to be like a normal Christmas. A lot of people don't have jobs. A lot of people are struggling.

The Customer Is Not Always Right | Food & Wine
“I didn’t feel super comfortable with it yet,” says Mar, explaining that she had yet to purchase the necessary air filtration system and figure out protocols to ensure the safety of her staff and guests. It was an early fall day and the weather was still pleasant, so she stuck to the 12 tables she could comfortably seat outside. A woman showed up for dinner with her boyfriend in tow, demanding a table indoors.

The COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged the industry , decimated wages, and sent restaurants into a tailspin of closures, reopenings, and ever-changing guidelines, all while exposing workers to health risks. And there is no real end, or government assistance, in sight. To make matters worse, customer entitlement is at an all-time high, according to the numerous servers, maitre’ds, managers, and owners that I spoke to across the country.

Restaurant owners losing customers to Indiana and Ohio businesses during COVID shutdown
HILLSDALE, Mich. (WILX) - Even with COVID infection rates improving in Michigan, there's no word when the state will allow restaurants to reopen for dine-in service.
That's beyond frustrating for owners, especially those watching their customers cross state lines for a sit-down meal.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordered all restaurant dining rooms to close last month because COVID cases were soaring.
