Valve Software announced the top 100 best-performing games of the year on its digital storefront Steam. While there aren't many surprises, it further indicates that in the games industry, the concept of a simple end-of-year breakdown is quickly becoming a historical artifact. Many of the "games of the year" for 2020, especially on Steam, weren't actually new releases.
The way that Valve presents Steam's top sellers is an interesting counterpoint to many of the other end-of-the-year lists, which have naturally been more focused on what's come out in the last 12 months. While Valve's thumb is slightly on the scale here, since its own games like Team Fortress 2 are perennial high earners on its storefront, the Steam top 100 paints a fuller picture of the overall marketplace than a simple yearly top 10 can.

A Toronto bar that was an open secret hidden behind a convenience store has announced they're closing almost exactly a year after they first opened.
Hush Hush did nothing if not pivot during the pandemic, left with few options to make money in their usual way like many secretive bars without patios or robust food programs.
They transformed into a private disco, served gelato, set up a CafeTO patio and did pickup cocktails to go. Prior to the pandemic, you could enter the bar via a front "convenience store" area selling hot dogs, patties and candy, and find a dark windowless watering hole furnished with funky couches and dripping in neon.

Apple Stores that fall under the UK's new " Tier 4 " restrictions are also closing effective December 20. The tighter guidelines impact 15 locations around London and 1 store in Wales. Apple's two stores in both Mexico and Brazil are also closing between December 19 and 20. All four locations had just transitioned to Express storefront service this past week.

Downtown Boulder navigating unusual predicament amid pandemic: vacancies
Strained by the COVID-19 pandemic, downtown Boulder and the Pearl Street Mall lost businesses this year, but new tenants and the preservation of some existing establishments has helped mitigate major vacancy spikes.
The number of businesses that opened this year helped offset the loss of restaurants and retailers who vacated, said Chip, CEO of the Downtown Boulder Partnership. According to records provided by the partnership, 32 businesses exited downtown this year, mostly from Pearl Street. However, 21 businesses opened this year downtown. In 2019, the partnership recorded 22 new businesses and 21 businesses that exited.
