A local artist says she hopes the displays remind the community of the importance of sticking together.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Beans and Leaves owner Megan Coppola found herself in a "now or never" situation. She recently committed to an expansion that will double her seating in West Brighton, a new venture that will see a broadened, all-day breakfast program.
Coppola said, "It's a terrifying time to take this on, but the opportunity presented itself and had an expiration date. We are slated to be fully operational in our revamped space within the next 10 days." While renovations are underway Coppola promises to keep the original shop space open as much as possible each day.

These are the questions that James Ferret, the founder and CEO of the Ethical Trade Company, hopes Madison consumers ask themselves this holiday season.
"We want more people to think about not just the quality of the products they're buying, but who sourced it, where it's sourced from and the true cost of the product," Ferret said.

Anish Karandikar shared a filming notification letter from production company Manly Shore Productoin Services Inc. on Twitter over the weekend, which states that filming will take place in the 500 Block of Shanghai Alley on Wednesday, Dec. 9 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
The letter notes that scenes "involve our hero crashing into a fake storefront," and that the street will be dressed to look like a "bustling Shanghai Alley with vendors and carts."

Despite what head chef and owner Martin Luzanilla called an "emotional roller coaster," he was finally able to open a storefront location of his growing business, Mexihanas Hibachi Grill on Friday, December 4.
The family-run business includes the involvement of Luzanilla, his brother Manuel and other close family and friends who have been a part of the business since its inception in July of this year.

It is high time that the dressing and decoration of shopping windows received recognition as legitimate art genre. And if there is anything that comes close to this, it would be the annual Christmas Storefront Contest held in Porto. The municipal website of the Portuguese city announced that the jury has received a total of 145 applications, 7 of which were later withdrawn or cancelled. The evaluation period itself will last until 17 December when a winner will be announced.
