TrueCue reveals the top data analytics priorities for 2021 and beyond
Looking back over the past year, it's clear that for many organizations, regardless of size or industry, technology was invoked to survive the crisis.
"Economic challenges will still make it problematic for businesses to get a full sense of what lies ahead but in order to traverse the current and post-pandemic landscape, those organizations able to make insight-driven decisions will be far more likely to prosper in the coming months and years."

Guest Opinion: Analytics is ruining baseball
Editor's Note: With pitchers and catches due to report this week, here's a look back at analytics' role in October's World Series.
Here's a pet peeve and this is a slam-dunk that I know every single one of you will agree with: When Major League Baseball teams let analytics — not managers — manage baseball games.
In Major League Baseball, analytics is ruining the game. In Game Six of the 2020 World Series, the Tampa Bay Rays were facing elimination. Rays ace starting pitcher Blake Snell was dominating the high-powered Dodgers with ruthless efficiency.
Analytics: Ravens Receivers Need to Be Better Catching the Ball - Sports Illustrated Baltimore
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — As the Ravens focus on improving the passing attack, they should turn their attention to the group of wide receivers and tight ends on the current roster.
One year after being named NFL MVP, Jackson had another solid season. He threw for 2,757 yards with 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions (99.3 rating) over 15 games. Jackson also became the first quarterback in league history to record two 1,000 yards rushing seasons.
Overall, Baltimore had the league's 32nd-ranked passing attack, averaging 171.2 yards per game.

I've grown up loving sports but hadn't really discovered the statistical and analytical side of sports until maybe my first year at Denison. Since my time at Denison, I've really grown to love not just statistics in sports, but in all fields. Being a Data Analytics major and having a love for sports from a pretty young age, it would be awesome to combine those two passions and work in sports analytics in some capacity after I graduate!

Using VR To Step Inside Your Data: VR Or AR-Enabled Analytics
While bar graphs and pie charts used to be the go-to tools to visualize data, they just aren't able to illustrate the complexity in the data we collect today.
To leverage the immense amount of data we collect every day, insights need to be extracted by more than just data scientists. Making data easier to understand even for those who don't have a data background is one of the ways artificial intelligence and augmented/virtual realities can really transform data analytics in an organization. The visualization of data helps users better understand it and recognize patterns.
Matt Andriese embracing opportunity to fill a role, analytics with the Red Sox
But ahead of 2021, there are still many who believe in the team. That includes new free-agent acquisition Matt Andriese.
The 31-year-old swingman was signed to a one-year, $1.85 million contract to provide depth to the pitching staff. Andriese is hoping that a return to an analytically-driven organization can help him continue to perform at a high level after a solid 2020 campaign.
Andriese is coming off a strong season with the Los Angeles Angels. He had a tough start to the year as a reliever, but in 11 appearances from August 20 through the end of the season, he was stellar. He struck out 18 batters over 17 innings pitched, held his opponents to a .089 batting average, and recorded a 2.16 ERA with two saves.
Automattic acquires analytics company Parse.ly – TechCrunch
Automattic , the for-profit company tied to open-source web publishing platform WordPress, is announcing that it has acquired analytics provider Parse.ly .
Specifically, Parse.ly is now part of WPVIP, the organization within Automattic that offers enterprise hosting and support to publishers, including TechCrunch. (We use Parse.ly, too.)
WPVIP CEO Nick Gernert described this as the organization’s first large enterprise software acquisition, reflecting a strategy that has expanded beyond news and media organizations — businesses like Salesforce (whose venture arm invested $300 million in Automattic back in 2019), the NBA, Condé Nast, Facebook and Microsoft now use WPVIP for their content and marketing needs.
