It's no surprise that the retailer is pursuing an aggressive strategy for marketplace since Walmart U.S. e-commerce posted a 69% increase in the recent fourth quarter, compared to total sales, which grew 7.3%.
"Our goal is to bring Walmart shoppers the very best brands online and in store," said Jeff Clemenz, vice president of Walmart marketplace. "We're reaching out to sellers directly and through partnerships such as BigCommerce. Those brands are selling on their own web sites and on other marketplaces, and our customers are demanding those products."

Wallapop , a virtual marketplace based out of Barcelona, Spain that lets people resell their used items, or sell items like crafts that they make themselves, has raised €157 million ($191 million at current rates), money that it will use to continue growing the infrastructure that underpins its service, so that it can expand the number of people that use it.
Wallapop has confirmed that the funding is coming at a valuation of €690 million ($840 million) — a significant jump on the $570 million valuations sources close to the company gave us in 2016 .

Marketplace in Bridgewater vandalized, community rallies behind business owners
BRIDGEWATER, Va. (WHSV) - When Tisha McCoy-Ntiamoah arrived at her PrePOPsterous counter at the North River Marketplace on Monday morning, one of the front windows of the building was vandalized.
"We had no idea what had happened. He [A cook at the market place] went out to take a look at it. That is when he noticed there was a stone figure that had been what was thrown at the window and damaged it," McCoy-Ntiamoah explained.

"If something like this happens to one of us, we're all impacted," McCoy-Ntiamoah explained. "I have just been overwhelmed by the show of support and encouragement and those that have shared Facebook posts to try to get the word out there to help us identify who may have done this."
Man's iPhone stolen during Facebook Marketplace transaction in Madison, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A man’s iPhone was stolen after a meeting arranged over Facebook Marketplace went awry Wednesday night.
Police responded to an armed robbery on the 200 block of South High Point Road at about 7:15 p.m., according to an incident report.

Ionia Harvest Marketplace accepting applications
IONIA — A group of community members is leading the effort to rebrand and expand the Ionia farmers market.
The Ionia Harvest Marketplace is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday from June 5 through Oct. 2 at the Robert Hoppough Farm Market Pavilion, which is located at the corner of Adams and Steele streets in downtown Ionia.
Ryan Wilson, a volunteer with Ionia Harvest Marketplace, said he's part of a small group of community members who wanted to grow the downtown farmers market.
