Following similar moves by Apple, Google, and more recently Amazon, among others, e-commerce platform Shopify announced today it’s also lowering its cut of developer revenue across its app marketplace, the Shopify App Store, as well as the new Shopify Theme Store.

Shopify will introduce a new revenue-share model for developers and speed up transactions as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pit the company against Amazon.
Shopify previously took a 20 per cent share of all revenues earned by each of the roughly 6,000 developers who create and sell tools that can be integrated and used with Shopify systems. It will now only take 15 per cent once the $1-million mark is reached.

Cloud-based social media software provider Sprout Social announced new integrations with Shopify and Facebook Shops, two of the biggest players in social commerce.
Why we care: Social commerce is a category which is only going to grow. Customers are discovering products through sponsored posts on social platforms and social ad campaigns, and it makes no sense to drive them from social -— where they want to be -— to a website to complete the purchase.
Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP): Enjoy 0% Fees, Developers!
Shopify (TSX:SHOP)(NYSE:SHOP) has announced that it's cutting fees on the first $1 million in app sales from 20% to 0%. The fee on revenues over $1 million is also being reduced to 15%. The cut applies only to developers in Shopify's app store — that is, people building apps for Shopify vendors.
