WDI awards 5 downtown businesses grants for storefront improvements | Port City Daily

WILMINGTON — Some areas of downtown Wilmington are getting a facelift. A Wilmington Downtown Inc. (WDI) grant program is helping storefronts offset the costs of improvements in the central business district of downtown Wilmington.

The Facade Improvement Grant (FIG) Program has awarded five $2,500 grants. Funded by the Municipal Service District, $15,000 was allocated this fiscal year for the program, according to a press release from WDI.

Veteran owned company opens storefront in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – eLuxury , a local manufacturer of mattress pads, announced they have opened a storefront on the east side of Evansville. The eLuxury store carries modern accent furniture, bedding and mattresses.

Paul Saunders, a Marine Corps veteran, started his business selling sheets through e-commerce outlets out of his garage. As the business grew, Saunders purchased a mattress pad manufacturing operation in
Tennessee, which he relocated to Evansville, Indiana, in 2016.

Thumb Coast CBD plans to open Birchwood Mall storefront

Mara McCalmon said they've seen the need for another location develop over the years and this gives customers in Port Huron and Fort Gratiot a closer store.

The just over 1,000-square-foot space is in a former jewelry store and the CBD store will have the same products and photos on the walls as the St. Clair space. While the St. Clair location is more "beachy" this will be more "classical," the couple said.

Zumi's to open second location in former Topsfield Bakeshop storefront

As soon as it became a reality that Topsfield Bakeshop would have to close its downtown location, customers wondered who would move into the space. A&J King Bakery of Salem? Maybe Zumi's of Ipswich?

Zillie and Umesh Bhuju, owners of Zumi's, announced today, "Great news! It's true for 2022!" Zumi's will, indeed, open in the Bakeshop's former storefront.

Another storefront vandalized in Carney

Witnesses told NottinghamMD.com that the glass doors to the shop above, located in the Satyr Hill Shopping Center on East Joppa Road (21234), were shattered sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Police say the incident is still under investigation and it is unclear whether anything was stolen.
