Have you ever asked 'why can’t I just stop shopping'

Last week I attended Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education virtual annual symposium. One of my favorite sessions was taught by Carrie Rattle, a financial therapist and coach and founder of Behavioral Cents, titled "Why Can't I Just Stop Shopping?"

There are enjoyable and beneficial aspects to shopping. It can be a time to spend with family or friends and a way to celebrate special occasions. Shopping at small and local shops is a great way to participate in our local economy. But shopping has changed immensely in the past few decades.

Downtown department stores were festive for holiday shopping

Christmas shopping begins in earnest after Thanksgiving. Not only is it a tradition, it's one of the biggest days of the year for retailers.

The day after Thanksgiving in 1946, Enquirer photographer Carl Wellinger snapped a photograph of shoppers lined up five abreast outside the Mabley & Carew department store in Carew Tower. The same for Rollman's across the street.

A Plethora of Fabulous New Shopping Experiences | New York Social Diary

The holidays may actually be something to celebrate this year. The Thanksgiving Day parade is back. And stores just keep opening up or have decided to convert from pop-up to permanent. What a difference a year makes! And not all the stores are BIG brands.
