Early Holiday Shopping Helps Offset Omicron Damper - WSJ

American consumers spent at a brisk pace over the shopping season, as an early rush to stores amid worries about supply and delivery problems muted the effects of a Covid-19 surge that disrupted some businesses and crimped spending before Christmas.

U.S. retail sales rose 8.5% between Nov. 1 and Christmas Eve compared with the same period last year, according to Mastercard MA 0.87% SpendingPulse, which tracks sales in the Mastercard payments network coupled with survey-based estimates for cash and checks.

Post-Christmas shopping appears as busy as it's been all holiday season

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The time for Christmas shopping isn't as clearly defined as it once was, but, for sure, it's not over yet.

In fact, the stores appeared to be as busy the day after Christmas as they have been all holiday season.
