Newport News plans new city hub at Sherwood Shopping Center site

NEWPORT NEWS — The city hopes to transform the underutilized Sherwood Shopping Center on Warwick Boulevard into a city hub with a new Grissom Library, police station and retail and residential developments.

At a City Council meeting Tuesday, architectural firm Quinn Evans gave the council a glimpse into how the 22-acre site could look once it's revitalized. The firm, hired by the city in 2021, displayed conceptual plans and renderings on a big screen in the Denbigh Community Center.
