Headlines:
Within just two days, two separate Facebook Marketplace meet ups at a metro apartment complex took a bad turn.
A diamond wedding ring and an iPhone 16 Pro, both of high value and for sale, caught the eyes of two men who made arrangements to pay and pick it up.
"It's a very common practice these days to sell things online, it seems that it is becoming more and more popular but there are safe ways you can still go about it," Dillion Quirk with OKCPD said.
Just last month, police gave tips and ways to go about online purchases following another Facebook Marketplace deal gone wrong.
A man wearing a wig showed up and while going over the paperwork to make sure the diamond ring was real, the suspect reached into the car, grabbed the ring, and took off.
While police were investigating the robbery, they were informed of another incident that took place at those apartments two days prior.
An iPhone 16 Pro being sold, but when they met, a similar story played out. A man wearing a wig showed up and ended up stealing the phone.
"Anytime someone ask you to meet at a place you are not familiar with, comfortable or know the area at all, it might not be a good sign to meet at that spot," Quirk said.
