On Monday, community members, representatives from the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator and local government leaders gathered to celebrate the opening of The Shoppes at 85 Clinton.
For the Binghamton boutique's owner, Carolee Constable, this was a project that has been in the works for a while.
"It has been a long time coming," Constable said Monday. "I set out to purchase the building in 2018, and I'm so grateful for the grant that made renovation possible. We put in a lot of work and I am thrilled to present this project back to the community."
The Shoppes is not Constable's first business venture — She said she has previously owned a restaurant and rental properties in the area — but it is the first one-stop shop she has led for entrepreneurs to take their business to the next level.
The Shoppes at 85 Clinton will serve as a multifunctional space, with sections of the store rented out to vendors selling merchandise and services.
The boutique will feature 12 vendors and businesses who have graduated from the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator's 12-week Boutique Accelerator Program . The program teaches business owners the ins and outs of running a successful brand, strategic pricing, revenue diversification and market validation.
Funding for the project was provided by Community Foundation of South Central NY , who awarded $19,000 for renovations and repairs. Each vendor was also provided with $1,000 to help start their business.
