LAKEVIEW — An SUV barreled through the front of an Ashland Avenue nail salon early Saturday and destroyed much of the store, causing it to close indefinitely, owners and police said.

Mary's Hot Nails 2 co-owner Shane, who asked his last name not be published for privacy reasons, was woken up around 2:30 a.m. Saturday to a phone call from authorities that ⁘no one wants to get,⁘ he said.

⁘So around three in the morning we drove over to the business and found out we had a new drive through installed,⁘ Shane said jokingly.

The SUV shattered the nail salon's entire facade, including its front door and windows. It also warped the storefront's exterior framing and destroyed a minimum of $10,000 worth of equipment – including at least three salon chairs, Shane said.

The full extent of the damage is still unclear. This week, a building inspector will assess whether any structural harm to the building was sustained in the crash and from there repair plans will be set into motion, the business owner said.

As the name suggests, Mary's Hot Nails 2 isn't the business' only location. The original Mary's Hot Nails, 3353 N. Clark St., can absorb some of the Ashland location's clientele and will keep running as the nail salon embarks on a long journey of repairs ahead.

As the dust continues to settle, Shane's main goal is to keep his head down, maintain the business and take the process one step at a time. His first order of business after damages are assessed: clean up the glass.
