Leesburg, Virginia, is a town with a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The town's historic district, which features many preserved buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, is a major tourist attraction (Historic Leesburg, n. d.). Downtown Leesburg is home to over 85 businesses, ranging from boutique shops to restaurants and galleries.
The town's preservation efforts are led by the Town Preservation Manager, Lauren Murphy, who works to maintain the community's character and culture. The downtown area is currently hosting a storefront decorating contest, where visitors and residents can vote for their favorite festive window displays. The contest, which runs through December 15, features QR codes posted in the windows of participating businesses, making it easy for people to cast their votes (Loudoun Now, 2023). According to Lauren Murphy, nearly all of downtown Leesburg's businesses have decorated their storefront windows, showcasing the town's holiday spirit.

Similarly, the town of Reston, Virginia, has a Holiday Festival that includes a tree lighting ceremony, holiday market, and other festivities (Reston Community Center, n. d.).
