Gowanus Souvenir Shop shuttering its storefront

Ute Zimmerman, owner of the Gowanus Souvenir Shop, says the aim of the store was to bring together items from local artists that played on the area's history.

“We started it basically as a bit of a spoof because the area had become so popular, but it is still a toxic waste site. And so, we thought it would be fun to make a souvenir shop for a toxic waste site,” says Zimmerman.

Zimmerman says she never imagined how successful the store would become. She says it was meant to be a four-month project, but its popularity let the store go on for four years.

Launch of Amazon's Hebrew storefront offers American expats a taste of home | The Times of Israel

According to Nir Ben Yona Sein, an Israeli consultant who runs several online tech sites, including one that aggregates Amazon deals, the retailer was exploring the Israeli market last year. Now, it's trying to promote itself locally.

"It has only one purpose in my opinion," Sein told JTA. "What they wanted to do is get the Israeli audience to know the platform well and buy more so they wanted to educate them to buy on the platform."

Israel does not currently host one of the gigantic warehouses Amazon uses to facilitate cheap and fast delivery to customers in the United States and other countries, and many e-commerce experts cited in the Israeli press have dismissed rumors that the company is planning to build one.

Prints from the Far North | The Highlands Current

Cape Dorset lies 1,573 miles due north of the Highlands. Or, to put it in more picturesque terms, Cape Dorset is an Inuit hamlet located on Dorset Island near Foxe Peninsula at the southern tip of Baffin Island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada.

It's a special place. Since the 1950s, prints, drawings and sculpture created at its Kinngait Studios (formerly the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative) have drawn an international following. For the past several years, the TheoGanz Studio in Beacon has represented the cooperative, initially at a Main Street storefront and now in a print room at 4 DeWindt St.

Vacant storefronts at Stamford mall as retailers head to SoNo - CTInsider.com

This week’s confirmation that Apple will close its store next month at the downtown Stamford mall to make way for a successor establishment at the new SoNo Collection mall in Norwalk highlights a growing migration of major retailers from Stamford’s main shopping destination and street-level addresses in the area to SoNo Collection.

“Shoppers and tenants alike seek new opportunities and new surroundings,” said Jeffrey Williams, Stamford-based executive managing director with commercial real estate firm Colliers International. “The topic of the conversation about the SoNo collection is hot, so people are going to go there… Nobody is intrigued to go to the Stamford mall.”
