Multiple people were sitting in a media room when the woman stood up, drew a gun and shot a man, a retired state trooper, seated in front of her in the back of the head, police said.

New York faces more empty storefronts as bank branches shrink

“There’s a bank on every single corner, and there’s definitely a backlash on that,” city historian Kevin Draper said. “So many people do banking online and over their phones. Frankly, New Yorkers will be happy to see some of these places going down. But the question is, Are these places going to just be vacant?”

The expiration of scores of branch leases is feeding the trend. Banks signed many of the agreements from 2002 through 2007—the heady days before “subprime” became a household word—and many of them ran 15 years, according to real estate brokers.

Astoria's Secret is a new bar hidden behind a lingerie shop

There was much hullabaloo when the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was cancelled late last year. For a while it seemed the bedazzled bras, faux feather wings and heels—so tall and precarious that models often fell on stage—would just be left on the cold, dark runway.

Astoria’s Secret has no affiliation with Lady V, but it's a new speakeasy bar tucked behind a lingerie shop, hoping to bring a similar energy to Queens . It's seemingly place where you could imagine bachelorette parties, themed burlesque nights, and, yes, an Angels pre-game holding court.

Changes underway at Main Street Music Center in Woodland – Daily Democrat

If the painted piano out front wasn’t a giveaway, Main Street Music Center has been providing music lessons in downtown Woodland for several years.

Husband and wife team of Robb and Cheri Wallace bought the building at 527 Main St. in 2004. Apart from outgrowing their warehouse space for their audio/visual rental business RDM Entertainment, the new venture was a response to the old Woodland Guitar & Music Store closing.

Since first opening, the storefront has housed not only RDM Entertainment but studio space for lessons as well. In recent years, the front portion of the store was devoted to retail, both in the form of Davis-based Watermelon Music and later Davids’ Broken Note.

Resale shop denied 2020 business license due to lack of "storefront" | Gasconade County Republican

John Hurley approached the Board of Aldermen in last Thursday’s meeting to ask why he was denied a business license.

* * *

Hurley says he opened Kelly’s Closet, a resale business in 2019 and was granted a license to operate by the city. When he went to city hall to obtain a 2020 business license he was denied a license. He said the reason given was a lack of a store front for his business. His business did not change location.

City Clerk Stephanie Lusk says that she was not the one who denied the license. It may have happened before the departure of former clerk, Jane Hungler. According to city codes, the city clerk is the city license officer. As such, they have the authority to “promulgate rules and regulations” pertaining to business licenses. These rules must be approved by the mayor and kept on file at city hall.
