‘Unintended Consequence’ of the Plastic Bag Tax; Shopping Baskets Going Missing From
Grocery stores say some customers are walking out with their plastic baskets and not returning them ever since the plastic bag ban went into effect last year.
The Connecticut Food Association is calling it an "unintended consequence" of the state's tax on plastic bags ; Retailers are losing their plastic shopping baskets after people take the baskets to their cars and never return them.
"I don't think a lot of people foresaw that the baskets would start disappearing when the law went into effect," said Brett Davis, store manager of the Geissler's Supermarket in Windsor.

Button Mobile Commerce Report: 2019 Holiday Shopping Season Trends Reveals That Shoppers Spent
2019 was another massive year for mobile commerce, with more consumers embracing mobile as their channel of choice for their entire shopping journeys. Comparing 2019 to 2018, Button saw a 68% increase in overall mobile spend per shopper, a 38% increase in total number of orders per shopper, a 106% increase in total number of installs, and a 12% increase in overall conversion rate.
Despite 2019's strong mobile performance, retailers looked at the holiday period with skepticism since it was a shorter season with six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The good news is that the 2019 holiday season saw much stronger results than 2018's: shoppers spent an average of $197 , a 17% increase from 2018, and their average order value was $59 , a 23% increase from 2018.
Connecticut stores are losing their hand-held shopping baskets as plastic bag tax takes effect -
One of the unintended consequences of Connecticut's tax on single-use plastic bags is that stores are now losing their hand-held shopping baskets to people who take them to hold groceries or other goods as they walk to their cars or to home.
"People are just taking the baskets and walking out the door with them," said Wayne Pesce, president of the Connecticut Food Association. "We've been laughing and scratching our heads about it."
But any significant loss of these heavy-duty plastic baskets, which Pesce said can cost stores between $5 and $8 each, isn't going to be a laughing matter to grocery and retail store managers.

Suns not shopping Aron Baynes but haven't ruled out trade, per report
Aron Baynes isn’t on the Suns’ trading block, but like any competent team, Phoenix also isn’t completely ruling out trading the backup center and his expiring contract, reports the New York Times’ Marc Stein .
That tidbit dropped Thursday in the context of Stein mentioning that the Los Angeles Clippers were seeking “dependable size” and “wing depth” as they gear up for a championship run that will likely go through their fellow Staples Center inhabitants, the Los Angeles Lakers.
