Amazon And Other Online Marketplaces Facilitate Counterfeiting, U.S. Says

I recently learned that an acquaintance had purchased eye makeup on Amazon which led to an eye infection. When the shopper escalated the issue and returned the product, the brand confirmed that the product was actually counterfeit. So earlier this week I found myself educating friends about how to buy products safely on Amazon - that is, steps to take to ensure they don't buy counterfeit or expired merchandise.

It was an eye-opening conversation for them, and reiterated to me again of the dichotomy of Amazon: shoppers are starting to experience bogus sellers directly, and legitimate brands selling on Amazon are feeling the pain.

The service will allow students to order meal s through their phone s and pick up their food at the marketplace, said Hicham Oulida, retail manager at Towers Marketplace. Students will receive a push notification alerting them that their food is ready to be collected, he said.

Towers Marketplace often has long lines, sophomore Erin Terada said, and allowing students to order ahead may allow the lines to move quicker.

30 million payment cards listed on fraud marketplace | TechRadar

Hackers have put the payment card details of more than 30m Americans and over one million foreigners up for sale on the Internet's largest carding fraud forum, Joker's Stash .

The latest “card dump” was listed under the name BIGBADABOOM-III on Joker's Stash but security experts at Gemini Advisory have traced the stolen card data back to the US East Coast convenience store chain Wawa.

Back in December, Wawa disclosed a major security breach in which the company admitted that hackers had planted malware on its point-of-sale ( POS ) systems. According to the company, the malware collected the card details for all of its customers who used either credit or debit cards to buy goods or gasoline at all of its 860 convenience store locations.

Trump may give an unintended boost to English whisky - Marketplace

It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good, or in the Scottish version of that proverb: It’s an ill wind blaws naebody gude. Take the tariffs that President Donald Trump has threatened to slap on European whisky makers — among many other businesses — in the row over subsidies for the plane-maker Airbus. Scotch and Irish whiskies have been targeted.

But not English whisky. And that could help this rather obscure product break into the U.S. marketplace.

Despite bans on plastic bags, big plastic is still winning - Marketplace

On March 1, 2020, New York will become the eighth state to ban single-use plastic bags . While the move is considered a win by environmentalists, the plastics industry has won the fight in most other states. With a strong lobbying arm, big plastic has successfully prohibited 14 other states from implementing state-wide regulations on plastic bags.

Samantha Maldonado, Politico New Jersey’s energy and the environment reporter, has covered the ways plastics and politics collide. Maldonado spoke with "Marketplace" host Kai Ryssdal about the ins and outs of the plastics industry, and what’s next for New Jersey, where 46 municipalities have local regulations on single-use plastic, despite the state’s failure to pass a state-wide ban for years.
