At San Mateo's Hillsdale Shopping Center, a tale of two malls - SFChronicle.com
On the north end, a $155 million open-air renovation has ushered in modern-looking stores, restaurants and a fancy cinema, all encircling outdoor spaces that feature a fountain light show and sitting areas.
The rest of the mall — the majority of it — remains enclosed, with department stores and lines of small shops, many touting products that are easily found online.
“They’ve done it up really nicely and the mall is now a great gathering place,” Larry Stein, a Belmont resident, said of the renovated areas. “They seem to be upping the ante on food options. Once or twice, we’ve come here to just eat, something we didn’t do before.”
Night to Shine hosts dress shopping - KNBN NewsCenter1
RAPID CITY, S.D. — This Saturday was the final day for attendees to shop for a free dress for Night to Shine.
Night to Shine is similar to prom night for people with special needs. It was created by Tim Tebow, to give people of all abilities one night where they can feel like a superstar. All the guests start the night with a walk down the red carpet, which means that they must be red carpet ready.
Women and girls were welcome to choose from over 100 different dresses in stock. All of the dresses were donated and those that weren’t given away on Saturday will be saved for next year's Night to Shine.
Once popular Houston shopping destination now riddled with violations
HOUSTON – It was once a Houston shopper's dream. Now, southwest Houston's Westbury Square is dilapidated and some said a collection of dangerous buildings.
"It was very exotic, the Chinese shop, the glassblowers and the candle shop," said Cathy Miles, a longtime resident of the Westbury neighborhood.

"The community feels this is the biggest scar in the area," said neighborhood resident Bill Burhans.
There is no masking the fact that Westbury Square has seen better days. The property features dilapidated buildings, massive holes in roofs, crumbling facades, busted windows, exposed electrical sockets and plenty of chipped paint. Its vibrant color lost.

ALBANY — Some call this city on the west bank of the Hudson "Cuomoland" though I prefer to think of it as the Villa of the Fatted Calf.

Why is the document so important? There is not an industry, an institution, a local government or a school in the state that isn't impacted by the budget. Your car registration is coming up for renewal? The budget has something to say about how much you'll pay.
Is the big employer in town struggling because of high taxes and your neighbor fears she could be kicked to the curb? You can bet the executives at that firm are hoping Albany decision-makers ease up on the state taxes and fees the company remits to the state.
Ross and Pier 1 Imports compared: home goods shopping - Business Insider
The company announced earlier this month in an earnings report that it plans to close up to 450 of its 942 stores, which could impact thousands of employees' jobs.
We visited a New York City Pier 1 Imports store over the summer and were impressed with the quality offerings and charming store layout. However, it was clear why the company has been struggling to compete with other discount home-goods chains.
Ross Stores is an off-price retailer that sells a variety of home goods in addition clothes, shoes, and accessories. The company has a history of posting strong sales and reported an 8% rise in third-quarter sales to $3.8 billion in November.
Don't Shop This Way in 2020
Kind of like that person in the movie theater who kicks the back of your seat: It's annoying, distracting and ruins your experience.
But that doesn't mean you should stop spending entirely, just like you don't have to stop going to the movies altogether. You just need to pick your purchases (and maybe your seats) more carefully.
Now that 2020 is upon us, here are some things you can kick out of your budget and some other changes to consider.
