Amazon (And Others) Brace For New eCommerce Tax | PYMNTS.com

The jousting over eCommerce taxes — especially for U.S. firms operating on an international scale — is about to get more heated. Last week in India, the government proposed a tax on eCommerce transactions that will likely increase operating costs for sellers large and small.

The tax, technically known as "Tax Deducted at Source" (TDS), is sent directly to an account held by the central government. The new TDS will apply to the gross amounts charged for sales or services done through eCommerce operators, indicating that platform firms are the intended payors (in addition to the firms on the platforms).

The world of e-commerce can be a difficult one to navigate for people who are used to optimizing traditional informational sites. Like any major digital initiative, it's best to have a concrete endgame in mind, and the same applies to e-commerce SEO. In the eyes of Adam Bastock, eCommerce SEO Consultant at Abastock, the key goal for all SEO is being "… present and useful at every stage of the customer journey. This means going far beyond looking at just product level keywords, but really understanding your customers’ problems and what they’re trying to solve."
