Vacant buildings in downtown Kendallville offer opportunities | | kpcnews.com
Berkeley's California Typewriter, star of documentary, closes shop — Berkeleyside
Sometimes even a feature-length documentary isn't enough to save a business. After 70 years servicing manual and electric typewriters, printers and business machines in Berkeley, California Typewriter is shutting down. The San Pablo Avenue shop is set to fully close by March 31.
The storefront has not maintained regular hours since January, when a banner announcing the shop's closing appeared on the side of the building. For potential customers, it's been catch-as-catch-can while owner Herbert Permillion and his daughters, Candy Permillion and Carmen Permillion, negotiate a timeline on the vacancy and the sale of the property and of the business.
Brandy's All City Sweets leaving Reed, opening in former Sugar Sugar
After nearly two and a half years in the Reed Opera House, Brandy Burgess is moving her bakery, Brandy's All City Sweets , into a dedicated storefront.
Burgess served her final treats at the Reed on February 15. On Tuesday, March 3, she plans to reopen in the former Sugar Sugar location at 335 State Street.
Sugar Sugar owner Dana Heuberger closed her eight year old cupcake bakery in January to consolidate it with her other business, Jubilee Champagne & Dessert Bar, in downtown Independence.
Berkeley's favorite Jewish deli is changing hands, but current owners say 'Saul's
Saul’s Deli, a North Berkeley institution, has been under the ownership of Peter Levitt and Karen Adelman since 1996; that era is ending soon.
The owners are selling Saul's Restaurant and Delicatessen on Shattuck Avenue, and they broke the news on a notice posted at the storefront on Thursday.
"It is with a mix of excitement and sadness that we announce that Saul's is changing ownership," the notice reads. "The new owner will introduce himself soon."
