Can’t decide whether to do your weekly shopping online (and twiddle your thumbs while it's delivered) or drive all the way to the store (burning gas and precious time along the way)? A new study suggests that you should avoid certain types of online shopping — at least if you’re concerned about the planet.
Large online retailers like Amazon have claimed that, all things considered, delivering packages to consumers emits less carbon dioxide than individual customers driving to the store. (It's worth noting that Amazon estimates its own carbon emissions to be 44 million metric tons per year — nearly as much as Norway.)

In the past two months, I’ve received compelling pitches for butterfly knives, a concealed umbrella sword and, most curiously, a “split blade neck knife” described as a “hidden threat from your neck to someone else’s spleen.”

STREETSBORO, Ohio (TEGNA) — Step2 voluntarily recalled more than 17,000 Little Helper's children's grocery shopping carts for a cutting hazard. The cart's basket can break into sharp pieces.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said customers should immediately take away the recalled shopping carts from children and contact Step2 for a free replacement or a coupon code refund.
The carts were sold at BJ Wholesale Club, Kohl's and other stores nationwide and online at Step2.com from May 2019 through October 2019. The toys were about $40.

The Bangor City Council has given final approval to a $433,777 construction project that will make it easier for bicyclists and pedestrians to avoid the knots of vehicles heading to shopping centers on Stillwater Avenue and Hogan Road.
This spring, the city will construct a nearly half-mile paved trail that starts on the western edge of Eastern Maine Community College and wraps around the off-ramp of Interstate 95 before depositing riders and walkers on Stillwater Avenue.

This is the next phase of Amazon's "Just walk out" technology and its application to more complex shopping contexts, ridiculing the skeptics' lightweight arguments against it. The value proposition here is clear: as you take the items off the shelves, you place them in your trolley in the same bags you will use to take them home. Go in, take what you want, and walk out the door, without standing in line. It couldn't be simpler.
Coronavirus: Singapore online shopping and delivery
After a brief period of panic-buying in Singapore earlier this month amid the coronavirus outbreak, more people are said to be going online to purchase groceries and other items.
RedMart, Alibaba-owned e-commerce firm Lazada's grocery arm, said it is "currently seeing unprecedented demand" in the city-state.
Even traditional supermarkets saw long, snaking queues that weekend, as people rushed out to stockpile household goods and canned food. Shelves were cleaned out and items such as toilet paper, cleaning products, face masks and hand sanitizers ran out.

The company said the carts' baskets can break into sharp pieces. Step2 has received 22 reports of cart baskets breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
The carts were sold at Kohl's, BJ Wholesale Club and other stores nationwide and online from May 2019 to October 2019. They cost about $40.
The products being recalled have date code combinations of 5 and 19. That code can be found on the center rib on the back of the basket below the handle.
