'Very challenging': Chinatown businesses are losing customers due to coronavirus rumors, owners

HOUSTON – A rumor of a possible case of coronavirus that spread across social media has been keeping customers away from many businesses in Houston's Chinatown, business owners say.

"It's very challenging," said Debbie Chen. She is part-owner of the restaurant Shabu House on Bellaire Boulevard. She says the restaurant business is hard enough without fear of the virus causing panic.

"I want my employees to be able to pay their bills so I'm basically taking money out of my own pocket so they can make their average of $15 an hour," Chen said.

When Holly Gordon of Bay Shore got the first notice from PSEG WorryFree telling her of the potential "thousands" in costs she faced if her underground water line burst, she didn't think much of it.

"I just chucked it" in the trash, she recalled. But when a more urgent letter arrived last month, including an "Explanation of Water Line Responsibility," she took notice. It noted that as of December, she still had not "chosen Exterior Water Service Line Coverage from HomeServe," which costs customers $4.99 a month, and requested a reply by Feb. 17.

Comcast "not welcome" here: Customers protest sale of tiny cable company | Ars Technica

Customers of a small cable company in Vermont are protesting the company's pending sale to Comcast.

Southern Vermont Cable owner and president Ernest Scialabba founded SVCC in 1988. He is selling the company and plans to retire after spending more than 40 years in the cable industry. Comcast already provides service in neighboring areas.

While a sale of the company appears to be inevitable, customers who filed comments would prefer a buyer other than Comcast. Here's a sampling of comments from nine Vermonters:

CMP: 'Vast Majority' Of Customers To Have Power Restored Late Saturday | Maine Public

Thousands of Central Maine Power customers remained without electricity early Saturday afternoon, the day after an ice storm swept through the state .

Crews worked overnight on Friday to restore power, according to the press release. Fifty local contractor crews and roughly 35 additional contractor crews from CMP's sister company UI, based in Orange, Connecticut, joined the regular crew members. Line workers contended with cold temperatures and ice-covered roads and lines.

Emergency water service shutdown for customers on in Kapaa | KHON2

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Kauai Department of Water announces an emergency water service shutdown for customers located on Ulu Street, Koa Street and Mamane Street in Kapaa for approximately six to eight hours due to a recent main line break on Ulu Street.

Water service will be turned off at approximately 11 a.m. this morning in order to prevent further flooding in the area and allow crews to access the damaged main line to begin repairs.

Spectrum customers experiencing outages | RochesterFirst

UPDATE: Spectrum services have been restored. A spokesperson for the company said the issues was fixed sometime Sunday evening.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Many Spectrum customers across the northeast have been experiencing outages Saturday due to service issues.
