With as many as three trailers for every tractor in the United States, and estimates ranging from 15% to 25% or more of trailers on highways running empty, solutions to solving this problem have eluded some of the top minds in the industry.
Part of the problem lies in the way fleets utilize trailers, but part of it is simply a matter of logistics: too many trailers in too many areas with no outbound loads.
A startup based in Saint Georges, Quebec, Canada, believes that building a sharing marketplace can help solve this problem.

Implications for U.S. tech companies as EU eyes AI regulation - Marketplace
The European Union released proposed regulations on artificial intelligence Wednesday, rules covering technology like facial recognition and autonomous vehicles that would have big implications for U.S. tech giants like Facebook and Microsoft.
The EU wants to be sure that there's human oversight of artificial intelligence, and that AI systems use high-quality data.

Uber capped California service fees but added a marketplace fee — Quartz
In response to AB5, the new California labor law that makes it harder for employers to classify workers in the state as independent contractors, Uber in January capped its service fee on UberX rides in California at 25%. It was one of several changes ostensibly made to give drivers greater transparency, and a sense of autonomy meant to reinforce their non-employee status.
The fee cap is part of how Uber tells drivers it wants to "make the fare structure more straightforward so it's clear where your earnings and fees come from." But there's still a lot about Uber pricing that drivers can't see.
