Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, who represents the Castro, Glen Park and Noe Valley, said business owners want to protect their property while not running afoul of city building codes. Some of the boarded up businesses have already been tagged with graffiti, which in normal times would lead to a Department of Public Works citation and fine.

Warehouse workers at one of Magic: The Gathering's largest secondhand stores say they are trying to unionize, a major step for the collectible card game's workforce.
The more than 100 workers at TCGPlayer's warehouse, which sells Magic: the Gathering , Pokémon , and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, among other collectibles, say they have concerns about their working conditions and healthcare.
"We were promised a company that truly cared about its workers, offering great benefits and a supportive, nurturing community," the union's organizing committee said in a letter it released online . "As the company has grown and evolved, workers in the Fulfillment Center have experienced much of this promise erode."

Downtown COA conditionally approved pending state guidance
Two downtown businesses have relocated to the building that formerly housed Larry's Rexall Pharmacy, but those are not the only changes planned for the building at 102 E. Elm.
For months, the building underwent renovations in preparation for the relocation of Almost Blonde, a hair salon and boutique, and Martha's on the Square, which sells women's clothing, in the first-floor space.
On March 12, the El Dorado Historic District Commission conditionally approved a Certificate of Appropriateness request for work on the storefront, including windows, doors, signage and brick repair.
