Could COVID-19 Help Refine AI, Data Analytics in Healthcare?

April 24, 2020 - In the months since COVID-19 has evolved from a blip on the world’s radar to a full-blown global health crisis, the virus has managed to shine a glaring light on some of healthcare’s most foundational cracks.

Gaps in care, disparate IT systems, and clinician burnout have become all the more visible in the midst of confusion and uncertainty, and stakeholders have realized that their response efforts may have to go beyond the current pandemic.

COVID-19 is driving more people to interact with financial institutions solely via an app or the Web. While more consumers are using these virtual payment methods, the spike in demand is exposing problems with their systems. If financial institutions do not become aware of these glitches and fix them promptly, it could cost them business.

Not to change the topic here:

Is digital transformation dependent on pervasive analytics? Not really

I first learned about Alteryx in the summer of 2011. July 19th to be exact, in Chicago. I didn't know what Alteryx was all about, but I wanted to see my good friend, Mark Smith, founder of Ventana Research and one of the speakers at the Alteryx "lunch and learn" event.

* * *

One of the invited speakers was a statistician from a Chicago company. Her presentation was entirely about the "democratization" of analytics. She demonstrated the capability of Alteryx to drag and drop statistical and AI icons to build models. I was surprised by this, and asked her afterward why she thought this was a good idea.

Analytics At Large: COVID-19 Data vs. HR Data — What's The Difference? | Jackson Lewis P.C.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on statistical terms often unfamiliar to anyone but such professionals as statisticians and data scientists. Terminology such as infection rates, “flattening the curve,” and related statistical information are now being used as slogans and hashtags. This post offers a brief explanation of data analytics and the related math for a better understanding of statistics and data.

How do you know what to rely upon? This is where the human element comes into the picture. When given data and statistics, be skeptical. Apply common sense and trust your own thinking, and find other research done from other sources to get a more complete picture. Understand the assumptions being made and how the data was collected.
