In Italy, where the coronavirus has shuttered more than 2 million businesses and left 1 in every 2 workers without income, some Italians are putting a new twist on an old custom to help the needy and restart the economy.

Retailers across the US are feeling the strain of the coronavirus pandemic, which is creating a surge in demand at some stores that remain open but has wholly dried up business for those that haven't.
"We are working on how we come out of this, what are we going to look like, and how are we going to make it so our customers feel comfortable coming to our properties. That's what our main concerns are right now," Greg Maloney, who heads commercial real estate services company JLL Retail in the US, said in a recent conversation with Business Insider. Today in coronavirus crisis food travels that aim to be normal, we do not head to Olive Tree Market Place in Sunnyside ( Olivetreemarketplace.com ) as brothers David and Moe Shehadeh are one of the few places on the Island that do same-day delivery. Their empanadas and rice balls are looking fine, as are the shelves lined with toilet paper and stuff of the sanitizing gods -- as this report is written -- Clorox wipes with a limit of one per customer.
In the yeast shortage currently experienced in the region because we are baking bread, pizza and gaining weight, David ventured to Queens and found packets of the leavening at a Polish market.

Sue Wheeler, owner of the Arts Abound gallery in Magnolia, opened her business in November only to shut its doors temporarily because of COVID-19. However, she is offering virtual shopping and is now making masks.

Sue Wheeler, a graphic designer by trade, has other talents. She sews and paints, and last fall opened an art gallery in Magnolia, which she had to temporarily close. Here, she is making masks, some to donate and some to sell.

From the Maihama Station/Resort Line level, it looks the same as always. The main gates remain closed, with a security guard patrolling. This protocol was in place even before this week’s break-in attempt .
Signs on the gates inform visitors that the complex is still closed, save for the three “essential” businesses. The first floor is open from 10am to 9pm every day.
Once you go downstairs outside, you can enter. You’re immediately greeted with an alcohol sanitizer station and a sign asking for cooperation in Japanese, English, and Mandarin Chinese. It’s interesting to me that there’s no request for Guests to wear masks, but almost everyone I saw was.

On Friday, Sysco, a food wholesaler, held a pop-up grocery store at the Southwest Florida Event Center in Bonita Springs, where people could buy groceries.
