With the impact of the coronavirus pandemic still ricocheting throughout the US economy, it can be difficult to envision retail returning to normal one day. And yet somehow it will—and much of it will look virtually indistinguishable from the pre-crisis reality. But changes in consumer behavior will be lasting.

Aside from the many brick-and-mortar retailers watching foot traffic and sales drop to near zero, the most profound shift in consumer behavior is happening in grocery ecommerce—and this shift is likely to have one of the longest-lasting consequences.

Covid-19: Schuh reopens its eCommerce website - Essential Retail

Schuh has reopened its website, enabling it to resume online trading. The decision comes just over a week after the footwear retailer closed down its eCommerce site due to concerns over staff welfare during the Covid-19 epidemic. Now, the Schuh management team has put in place extensive welfare measures to ensure the safety of its employees working in its eCommerce operations.

There will be a staggered reopening of the company’s fulfilment operations, following the introduction of Covid-19-related health and safety measures. These include only allowing a maximum of 10 people working on site at any time, two metre spacing between staff, and the introduction of work station sanitisation cleaning kits.

Retail eCommerce news from week beginning 30 March -

commercetools has announced its arrival in Australia as part of the company's global expansion across the US, Europe and Asia Pacific. This follows a USD$145 million investment boost from Insight Partners in October 2019.

Commercetools' Australian presence is headed by newly appointed territory sales manager, Joshua Emblin. Emblin is also charged with building a dedicated team out of the company's Melbourne hub. The company is also launching a new regional data centre in Sydney in April. Using the GDP/Google Cloud Platform the data centre will support customer growth in Australia and New Zealand.

How Brands Can Address The Hyperdrive Impact Of COVID-19 On E-Commerce

While e-commerce has gained steady traction over the past couple of decades, the impact of quarantining has catapulted it into hyper drive. Online sales have been growing by triple-digits since social distancing went into effect. Brands who are already well prepared for e-commerce and are high on the maturity curve certainly have an advantage. But most unfortunately are not prepared. Profitero and Kantar surveyed 200 brand executives just a few months ago and found that only 17% believe their organizations are leading competitors in e-commerce . The vast majority (71%) say their organizations are merely catching up or keeping pace.

From cancelled conferences to disrupted supply chains, not a corner of the global economy is immune to the spread of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 is altering e-commerce buying behavior as consumers are revamping their digital baskets as groceries and apparel take center stage, according to Adobe's new Digital Economy Index.

The launch of Adobe's Digital Economy Index is timely given many businesses have gone digital-only due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What remains to be seen is whether COVID-19 will have a lasting impact on e-commerce or prove to reflect stay-at-home orders.

E-commerce, delivery in retailers' arsenal against COVID-19 - Furniture Today

HIGH POINT — As the economy slows due to the COVID-19 virus, furniture retailers are finding ways to fight back.

According to a March 2020 survey of furniture retailers conducted by Furniture Today, 69% of responding stores plan to focus more on e-commerce in order to adapt to mandated/semi-mandated store closings and social distancing policies. Allowing customers, many of who are stuck in their homes, to shop online is one way to keep business going.
