By the time Garrett and Katie Sims walked into The Sourdough Bagel at 10 a.m. on Friday, there were just three jalapeƱo cheddar bagels remaining.

Bonny Perkins, purveyor of the wildly popular bread product, had prepped 300 bagels for a soft opening that began at 7:30 a.m. at 219 N. 29th St. The bagels take two days to make, due to the fermentation process, then are kettle boiled in a process that creates a flaky crusted, yet soft bagel.

Project Turns 10th Street Storefront Windows Into Art Installations

COVID-19 forced many community arts organizations to change the way they work with neighborhoods. Cathead Press on East Washington Street is an active community center for the Englewood neighborhood -- offering professional and public printmaking studios, youth programs and gallery space. The nonprofit recently opened a similar space on East 10th Street.

From WFYI's Arts and Culture Desk, Jill Ditmire spoke over the phone with Cathead Press Executive Director Dominic Senibaldi. He and program director Liz Wierzbicki also teach part time at Herron School of Art and Design. Both were navigating online courses for their IUPUI students and rethinking the Cathead Press outreach, when they were asked to curate art for street-level storefront windows on East 10th Street.
