China's midyear shopping festival, known as 618 because it runs from June 1 to 18 each year, was started by JD.com in 2004, but has since grown to include other platforms like Alibaba and Pinduoduo and now serves as an important indicator of the country's e-commerce market.
The festival this year was particularly noteworthy because it came after China imposed lockdowns to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic that pushed the country into its first economic contraction in four decades.

Under the enhanced strategic cooperation reached weeks ago by Kuaishou and JD.com , the two companies co-launched the online sales campaign on June 16th , by doubling the customers' subsidy from one billion yuan ( 143 million USD ) to two billion. Both sides offered half of the whole subsidy amount respectively.

The new owners include Baltimore-based America's Realty LLC, New York-based Borough Equities and Miami-based Dragonfly Investments.
The group, which has acquired more than $150 million of shopping centers, was attracted to the property because it is a discount-focused shopping center in the Midwest, according to Erin Patton, a Columbus-based Marcus & Millichap broker who worked on the sale.
