Data analytics technology is starting to pay dividends for state and local governments. Vendors in the analytics market have an opportunity to introduce their products to these government decision-makers now, even though budgets may be restricted.
Worldwide use of big data and analytics technologies is experiencing rapid growth. IDC predicts by 2022 the compound annual growth rate will be over 13 percent. In calendar 2019 alone, more than $190 billion was spent worldwide on big data and analytics. State and local government entities are starting to see that same boom as well.

Data analytics practices plagued with inefficiencies | ITProPortal
Data analytics practices are plagued with inefficiencies, according to a new report from automated data integration provider Fivetran.
Polling circa 500 data professionals, the firm uncovered "surprising" information surrounding how data analysts spend their working days and the challenges they face.

According to Fivetran, most data analysts spend less than half of the day actually analysing data. Much of the rest of the day is wasted as a result of various bottlenecks.
Council Post: Machine Learning Vs. Predictive Analytics: Which Is Better For Business?
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear "artificial intelligence" (AI)? While I-Robot was a great film, it doesn't count. Many don't realize how deep the rabbit hole goes, either. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of subsets of AI.
In my opinion, two of the most effective forms of AI are machine learning and predictive analytics. Don't worry if you're stuck on the fence about them — I'll be explaining how businesses can apply these two forms of AI, what separates them, and what's suitable for different types of organizations.
Test and Measurement: Synopsys acquires semiconductor analytics company Qualtera - RCR Wireless
Semiconductor design company Synopsys has acquired analytics company Qualtera, which focuses on analysis of semiconductor design and manufacturing. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Synopsys said the transaction was not material to its financials.
The acquistion by Synopsys comes on the heels of a similar recent acquisition by National Instruments. NI agreed to buy OptimalPlus, a data analytics company focused on the semiconductor manufacturing space, for $365 million. That transaction is supposed to expand NI's enterprise software capabilities, the test company said, "to provide customers with business-critical insights through advanced product analytics across their product development flow and supply chain."

Data Analytics: A Weapon For The World To Battle The Pandemic - Express Computer
The role of data during this pandemic is multifold- creating larger datasets through open sourcing, deriving analytics for health monitoring and future decisions, and lastly, using the internet to provide citizens with data required related to the pandemic.
A lot of countries, like India, have developed contact tracing apps that are gathering data of infected and non-infected individuals to track the spread of the virus. The same strategy was used by New Zealand who imposed an early lockdown and used contact tracing to its optimum. Data and a few more factors have led New Zealand successfully out of the pandemic radar.
Survey finds BI and data analytics more important in pandemic
BI and data analytics professionals remain optimistic about the role analytics will have during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new survey conducted by Meidata for Sisense. Forty-nine percent of 500 U.S. respondents said they use analytics much more now than they did before the pandemic.
"Data and analytics has a significant role in helping companies respond and recover from the immediate effects of the pandemic, and in helping organizations reimagine and rebuild their organizations, business models and supply chains longer term for sustainability, resilience, responsiveness, agility," said Rita Sallam, a vice president analyst and fellow at Gartner.
Purohit working on project examining use of big data analytics to aid COVID-19 response |
Hemant Purohit, Assistant Professor, Information Sciences and Technology, received $24,266 from the National Science Foundation for a project in which he and his collaborators are implementing a framework for social media use in disasters in a computational system.
The researchers developed this framework as part of a previous research project, and will further implement the framework for this effort. They are taking this step to discern how content affects the trust of human analysts who are teaming with artificial intelligence (AI) systems and how to design more efficient ways to improve the collaboration between humans and AI systems for complex information processing tasks.
Achieving Analytic Nirvana During Lockdown
In a general business environment, we find three types of leaders, who will need data training to come up to speed with data-driven decision-making culture.
Stage 1 – Remote working for these organisations is not an issue as long as the systems do notwn breakdown. The executives of these organisation have all the information they need to keep the business running remotely.
Stage 2 – These organisations responded quickly to the changes and are demanding more data support now. Demand for their quarterly and monthly reports are currently on a monthly and weekly basis. Their data models are updated more frequently, and they expect more responsive support on ad-hoc analysis requests. They need shorter range forecasting now and are trying to replicate all their physical strategies into virtual strategies.
