The Cheapskate Show podcast: The best Amazon shopping hacks - CNET

Cheeps! The Cheapskate Show is now in full swing. This weekly podcast is dedicated to -- you guessed it -- helping you save money.

For example, everybody shops at Amazon, right? But not everybody knows how to, say, save money on a Prime membership, score discounts on Amazon gear, look up price histories and so on. That's where we come in. This episode is devoted to some of our favorite Amazon shopping hacks.

We also talk about an "Apple hack" of sorts, one that follows up last week's discussion of AirPods alternatives. If you already own AirPods or decided to buy them anyway, find out how you can add wireless charging to the mix on the cheap.

Stores that let you shop without ever interacting with another human are the ultimate

Cashier-less checkout is gaining traction as stores do their best to keep their customers and employees safe and healthy.

We've all seen the measures stores are taking to make sure customers stay 6 feet apart while shopping. One-way aisles, fewer shoppers and face masks are now part of every consumer's shopping routine. And while some stores are upping their game when it comes to limiting person-to-person contact, other retailers have had contactless methods in place for years. You just might not be aware of your options.

A bargain hunter's guide to used car shopping

If you're shopping for a car, you may already know that buying used is a smart move that greatly expands your choices. The key is knowing where to look for them.

Buying a used car will not only save you money but also allow you to shop higher-end brands, says Ivan Drury, Edmunds.com's senior manager of insights. For example, maybe you wanted a new Toyota Camry. Instead, he says, you can save about $5,000 and get a 3-year-old Lexus.

Because of the bankruptcy of Hertz rental car agency, along with the many cars coming off lease, there are a lot of used vehicles to choose from, says Jeff Huang, who attends auctions as the remarketing sales supervisor at Westlake Financial Services. "A good used car is a real value proposition — and there are definitely deals to be had," Huang says.
