The Recession’s Impact on Analytics and Data Science

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic is having a dramatic negative impact on economies in the U.S. and worldwide, and unemployment rates are soaring. Given the economic disruptions, it seems likely that many countries in the global economy will experience a recession .

To understand what managers are thinking regarding where to go with analytics and data science in the coming year, we reached out to a number of company leaders in one-on-one conversations and reviewed aggregate demand on job boards. Based on what we learned, we think that as organizations scramble to imagine a new COVID-19 economic reality, four factors will determine their decisions on continued investment in analytics and data science.

Jeffrey Stanley was named senior vice president and head of fixed-income strategy and analytics at fixed-income securities underwriter and distributor Incapital.

The position is new. Based in Boca Raton, Fla., he reports to George Holstead and Laura Elliott , co-heads of fixed income, and Stephen Giles , chief operating officer, a spokesman said.

Mr. Stanley was previously chief operating officer and chief risk officer at financial services holding company D.A. Davidson.

NIH Launches Analytics Platform to Harness COVID-19 Patient Data to Speed Treatments –

The N3C is funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), part of NIH. The initiative will create an analytics platform to systematically collect clinical, laboratory and diagnostic data from health care provider organizations nationwide.
