Walmart partners with Shopify to expand its online marketplace – TechCrunch

The partnership is a direct shot at Amazon, which today promises third-party sellers the ability to reach more than 300 million customers worldwide and even offers help with shipping, returns and customer service by way of Fulfillment by Amazon.

Walmart, meanwhile, has been steadily working to make its own marketplace a more competitive offering. In fall 2018, for example, the retailer announced Walmart Marketplace items would be able to participate in its free, 2-day shipping program and would be eligible for in-store returns. Today, Walmart describes its Marketplace’s growth as a “strategic priority.”

Lombardo's opens online marketplace, plans drive-in theater - News - The Patriot Ledger,

RANDOLPH — Though outdoor restaurants and retail establishments have gotten the OK to slowly resume operations, large-capacity venues like Lombardo's in Randolph are still weeks, if not months, away from being allowed to reopen. Rather than sit and wait for an uncertain future, the Lombardo's team decided to pivot their services with a new marketplace and drive-in theater that will allow them to serve the community and, they hope, survive.

"We've spent the first two months of the COVID-19 crisis really focused on giving back and preparing meals for healthcare and front line workers," David Lombardo, general manager, said. "As that started to wind down, we said 'We've been cooking well, let's see if the general public would gravitate towards that.'"

Supreme Court rules LGBTQ workers protected from job discrimination - Marketplace

The audio attached to this post features an interview from the “Marketplace Morning Report” with Gillian Thomas, senior staff attorney with the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a landmark civil rights law protects LGBTQ people from discrimination in employment, a resounding victory for LGBTQ rights from a conservative court.

The court decided by a 6-3 vote that a key provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 known as Title VII that bars job discrimination because of sex, among other reasons, encompasses bias against LGBTQ workers.

Global ad marketplace to drop 7% this year, rebound next year, Magna says | Marketing Dive

Magna's numbers point to an acceleration of troubles for advertising sales volume, which is now expected to shrink by 7.2% in 2020 compared to Magna's previous estimate of a 2.8% drop. For the linear advertising landscape, which was already in trouble before the pandemic took shape, things have gotten worse as consumer digital usage has grown during lockdowns.

Digital remains the most solid in terms of ad revenues, as consumers spend more time online. The question is whether this will hold even as people return to physical businesses.
