Zoom, Shopify, Other Rich-Value Tech Stocks Continue Run - TheStreet

Investor enthusiasm for richly-valued tech companies that they see as winners in the current environment isn’t letting up - at least for the moment.

Several of the aforementioned companies have now more than doubled on the year. The list includes Zoom (up 295%), Fastly (up 324%), Twilio (up 166%), Wayfair (up 150%) and Peloton (up 126%).

Likely contributing to the continued strength in tech companies seen as benefiting from the current environment: the recent spike in covid-19 cases in many southern and western states. This has led reopenings to be paused or reversed in many parts of the U.S., reinforcing investor perceptions of such companies as safe havens.

Dow Jones Futures: Coronavirus Stock Market Rally Extended As Tesla, Amazon, Shopify, Zoom Surge

Dow Jones futures tilted higher late Monday, along with S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq futures. The coronavirus stock market rally had a strong session, as growth reclaimed leadership. But the stock market is already flashing warning signs, with the Nasdaq hitting or topping key channel lines.

Dow Jones tech giant IBM ( IBM ) and Cadence Design Systems ( CDNS ) reported earnings after the close. IBM stock and Cadence Design stock both rallied overnight on earnings beats. But IBM stock, though technically moving toward a buy point, has been a long-term laggard. CDNS stock is well extended.
