The 2020 ... Tech Shopping List - WSJ

Classrooms are going to look a little different in the coming months. As many schools stick with distance learning to prevent the spread of coronavirus, more students will be getting an education from home.

While districts do furnish laptops and Wi-Fi hot spots to students to help bridge the digital divide—and some even issue Chromebooks and other computers to entire classes—many schools expect students to have their own devices, plus accessories like headphones.

With safety measures, ‘Just for Her’ shopping event hopes to help and support local

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — For the first time since COVID-19 restrictions shut businesses down in March, a huge show at the Overland Park Convention Center is opening its doors to the public this weekend.

Safety measures are in place at the “Just for Her” shopping event and for the most part, customers are excited for the experience.

Masked up and ready to shop, the line formed early Saturday morning with customers eager to get inside the convention center and support the local businesses they’ve been missing.

Susan Sloan is a self-proclaimed senior citizen shopper. “We are thrilled to be here and help the economy if we can.  We are thrilled to be out.”

Gunfire Erupts Near Long Island Shopping Center, Police Investigating – CBS New York

MANHASSET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Gunfire erupted near a shopping center in Manhasset on Saturday.

Witnesses who spoke to CBS2’s Cory James said it was absolute chaos at the Americana mall when multiple shots were heard around 1 p.m.

Ralphs Suspended Employee For Pepper-Spraying Customer Who Rammed Her With Shopping Cart When

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Ralphs confirmed Friday it suspended a store employee who pepper-sprayed a customer who rammed her with a shopping cart when she asked him to wear a mask.

The employee had asked the man to wear a mask or leave the store. Instead, he rammed her with a shopping cart, so she pepper-sprayed him and called police.

Witnesses to the altercation said the employee was defending herself, but she was still suspended for her part in the incident.

Wyoming boy who saved his sister from dog attack gets candy shopping spree in Denver

DENVER — You've probably heard the story of 6-year-old Bridger Walker, the Wyoming boy who protected his sister from a dog attack. The social media post showing the boy's scars went viral.

Saturday, he was in Denver at IT'SUGAR Candy Store, where he got to go on a candy shopping spree with his siblings.

The 6-year-old who saved his little sister from a dog attack a couple of weeks ago got a candy shopping spree at IT'SUGAR Candy Store in Denver. They are just the latest in a long line of people reaching out to thank him.

Downtown Beloit event expands outdoor dining, shopping to the street

Beloit, Wis. (WMTV) - Taking inspiration from other cities, including Madison's 'Streatery' program , downtown Beloit launched an event allowing restaurants and shops to expand into the street.

Downtown Beloit Al Fresco on Grand will close off the 400 block of the street every Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Executive director for the Downtown Beloit Association, Shauna El-Amin, said the goal is to help shops serve more customers in a safe way. She said four are currently participating.

Back to School shopping during COVID-19 | Business | kdhnews.com

Back-to-school season has arrived, but it looks a little different this year. School districts across Texas are trying to figure out how to best serve and protect their students and teachers.

Some are starting with virtual learning, while some want to keep classes online through the end of the year.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) anticipates back-to-school season 2020 will set a new record for back-to-school shopping, as many parents may need to purchase laptops for their children to attend school virtually.
